How to Make Leggings and What Machines are Required for Legging Manufacturing?

Image
Recently I made one documentation on Legging Manufacturing. In that documentation, I mentioned legging manufacturing process briefly. You might find this guide helpful. Keep reading.

I consider that you have already purchased fabrics (stretched knitted fabric, elastic, sewing thread etc.)  and other raw materials. I will explain here step by step sewing processes and machine requirement for making leggings.

List of operations involved making a Legging are

1. Cut and join elastic: Elastic will be received in a roll. Cut elastic according to the measurement. Then join two ends of the elastic to make a closed loop. Elastic cutting can be done by helper.

Use Zigzag sewing machine to join elastic. For this operation you can use single needle lock stitch machine. But when you use single needle lock for joining elastic, you will get bulk at the joining, due to overlapping of two ends. To remove bulk at joining you should prefer using a Zigzag sewing machine.

“GSD provides a scientific, ethical and auditable approach to quantifying manufacturing methods, times and costs and accurately and consistently establishes International Standard Time for complete products (styles), or individual product components (features). GSD provides the ability to establish and quantify each step or operation in the manufacturing process”
How can I find SAM or SMV or Standard Time by GSD?  First of all if you want to determine standard time (SAM or SMV) using GSD system, you have to purchase GSD. Once you purchase, GSD will provide you training on how to use the system, how to study sewing methods and measure standard time based on motion analysis a…

What are the Differences Between Trims and Accessories?

Question: What are the differences between Trims and Accessories? Give me example of 5 trims and 5 accessories. ... asked by Miteb Reza

Trims and accessories are those materials that are used in a garment other than main fabric (shell fabric). Even lining materials (fabrics)fall under trims and accessories.

At first, when we read or heard these two terms, it seems that trims and accessories may refer to two different types/ kinds/ categories of materials. One term may be used as functional components and others term is used for non-functional and decorative purpose. But this is an assumption.
I referred a book (Apparel Manufacturing by Glock and Kunz) and found following definitions

Factors that Affect Thread Consumption in Garments

Image
Question: What affects the thread consumption? ... asked by Miteb Reza

Thread is an essential trim in garment sewing. In mass production, total thread requirement is calculated based on thread consumption per garment. Thread consumption calculation method is explained in an earlier article How to calculate thread consumption for garments?

Product to product thread requirement varies and factors those affect in resultant thread requirement per garment are explained below.

Each product has different number of components to be sewn together and different seam length. Fabric types and seams used in making garment, machines to used depends on the product. So first and foremost a product is the main factor for having different thread consumption. Normally, you can say that product with less no. of components and shorter seam length require less thread.

Technical factors those determine actual thread requirement are as following.

Ratio of Sewing Machines used in a Shirt Factory

Question: I am in the process of setting up a garment manufacturing unit in Bangalore. I will begin by doing Job Work for some big players like BRFL. I want clarity regarding the machine ratio. I have been offered orders for Mens Shirts . I want to begin with around 30 machines then gradually increase it . I want your valuable advice on the ratio of different types of machines I need to buy. Kindly advise. ... asked by Abhijith

Answer: In an earlier post I posted different Types of Machines Used in a Shirt Making Factory. But it is not enough just to know different types of sewing machines required for making shirts. You have to know machine how many machines do you need to buy in different categories. When you are going to set a shirt factory, selection of correct machine ratio is important to maximize utilization of your machines.

Instead of just posting answer of your question, I am explaining how machine ratio is calculated.
