Developments in Flame Retardant Industry During 2017 - a Review

This is a guest submission from Atif Mallo.

As the demand for higher-quality FR products has amplified over the years, there has been a meticulous focus towards fulfilling safety regulations by the manufacturers of FR products and a sense of heightened awareness for the importance of FR clothing. The previous year has seen many new developments roll out in the FR textile industry as the suppliers strive to offer better quality products and improved flame resistance. Let us have a look at what new developments came about in the year 2017.
Developments in Flame-Retardant Textile Fabrics As any work environment has many factors contributing to the specific requirements of a worker’s protective clothing arising the need for a workwear that provides multi-hazard protection, multiple functionalities of an FR fabric are something that hugely adds to the practicality of the FR apparel. Smaller Production Lines in the Apparel Manufacturing Industry and Its Benefits

This is a guest submission by Bibhuti Bhusan Pradhan. He explained the benefits of using smaller production lines on the shop floor.

The apparel manufacturing industry teaches a lot with its continuous improvements and sometimes out of box innovations and ideas. One of the initiatives of the smaller line is gaining popularity and coming out as a strong reply to the current fluctuating orders, smaller order quantities. This article is an attempt to explain the key benefits of the concept.

A smaller stitching line The concept as it is read speaks about continuously reducing the length of the line and improve the flexibility of the factory with the extended benefit of productivity, quality, and ethical sourcing.

Buyers gradually are looking for competitiveness in terms of quick throughput time, the flexibility of accommodating smaller quantities without any compromise to quality. Smaller lines are quite flexible in accommodating smaller runs, faster turnover of goods and goods passing t…

Recording Operator's Work Start / Stop Time and Its Importance

Do you know when your stitching operators start stitching garments in the morning and when they stop working before leaving the factory in the evening?

It seems very difficult to record all operator’s actual start and stop time.

Is it practically possible capturing all operators exact work start time and work stop time?

Yes, this is possible with the help of technology solutions. With the manual aid, this much in-depth data capturing is not possible.

Currently, most of the garment units have CCTV on every corner of the factory and shop floor. A dedicated department or factory owner (in small factories) keeps eye on the floor whether operators are working or not, what the operators are doing. CCTVs do some work on stopping operator doing unethical practice on the floor. But from the CCTV recording, one can't create operators work start/stop time report.

Payroll clock-in (when employees enter the factory and when they leave the factory in the evening) data is not enough these days t…

13 Automatic Spreading Solution Providers for Textile and RMG Industry (Cutting Room Automation)

The automatic spreading technique is not a new technology in the fashion manufacturing industry. I have seen automatic spreading first time in the year 2005 when I was doing a college internship in Texport Syndicate (a garment manufacturing company) in Bangalore.

By using an auto spreader, garment many manufacturers have reduced manpower in the cutting room from 6 persons to 1-2 persons per cutting table (spreading activity). At the same cutting room capacity is increased many times. Additionally, the most important thing, cutting quality has been improved.

A lot of technology advancement happened in the spreading machine too at the IoT (Internet of Things) era. Spreading statistic is available with the auto-spreader.

Know more about automatic fabric spreading machine and watch a video on auto spreading.

In this post, I have shared a list of automatic spreading machine brands and spreading machine solution providers. This list would be helpful to them who are planning to install a…

Apparel Product Specification Sheet and Its Importance in Product Development

Apparel product specification sheet, also known as spec sheet or BOM (Bill of Material) is an important sheet containing details of the new styles/ designs. It contains all the important data regarding the style.

Essentially, spec sheet should be issued to the development merchandiser by the buyer whenever a sample needs to be made. This will enable product development team to know exactly what is supposed to happen with the construction and trims for each style.

When the factory has a complete set of detailed instructions, the execution of accurate samples will improve the turnaround time and simplify communication during each stage of manufacturing and quality control.
In essence, the Fashion Spec Sheet is the “blueprint” for sample development and garment production, as it contains all the necessary components required to manufacture it. The Fashion Spec Sheet is also useful as a resource document for purchasing materials and trims.

It is important to pay attention to the spec s…
