How to Improve Efficiency of a Sewing Line?

In this post, I am going to ask you one question - being an Industrial Engineer, how will you improve the efficiency of a sewing line?

Or if you have already improved line performance earlier then how did you achieve that improvement?

(Note: Line performance to be measured in efficiency percentage).

The primary goal of employing an Industrial Engineer in a company is to reduce production cost and improve product quality. Production cost per garment is directly linked to factory efficiency when other parameters like workers salary are fixed. It means when you increase line efficiency (labour productivity) production cost per garment goes down.

There is always cost pressure from buyers end and you would not have legacy of completing an order at your pace. You need to bring down production cost and at the same time speed up production rate to meet the production deadline.

What you need to meet these goals? You need to work on improving operator performance and finally improving line efficiency. Right? Do you agree with me?

If you don't yet measure line efficiency, start measuring it. Look at the line efficiency of your lines. Find the true efficiency by using correct method.

My question to you  -

(A) How will you improve line efficiency from the existing efficiency?
(B) If you have already increased performance from exiting performance –  how much efficiency points you have increased?
Just know more about your success story in this regards I have added three questions. I would love to hear your story.
(C) What was the existing efficiency of your line(s)?
(D) What is current line efficiency?
(E) How many days it took you to reach current efficiency level?

You can write your answer in the following comment box mentioning the question number. Alternatively, you can fill up the following form (Your Success Story). I will post your stories here in the coming days and share with others.

What is your next target? What plan of action you are taking to achieve the next goal?
